Boca Juniors of Argentina defeated Brazil club Palmeiras 2-0 in a friendly match Friday to mark the final game in Palmeiras' stadium Palestra Italia.
The 30,000-seat stadium will be demolished to make way for a new 45,000-seater to be called Arena Italia.
Palmeiras club officials hope the new stadium will be considered as a venue for Brazil's 2014 World Cup. Sao Paulo's main stadium Morumbi has been dropped from consideration because of financial issues.
Arena Italia is expected to be ready in 2012.
