FIFA has warned Portugal's football federation it faces sanctions for failing to reform its election rules.

FIFA says it has expressed ''astonishment and concern'' that Portuguese officials have not yet adopted FIFA-approved guidelines on how to conduct internal elections.

The two sides met Tuesday at FIFA headquarters.

FIFA has now issued a statement urging the Portugal federation to approve new voting rules at a general assembly, then hold elections that meet the governing body's standards.
