FIFA Senior VP Hayatou to present trophy at Women's World Cup final
The secretary general of the Confederation of African Football says FIFA Senior Vice President and African soccer head Issa Hayatou will present the trophy at the Women's World Cup final in place of Sepp Blatter. Blatter, the FIFA president, is skipping the trip to Canada in the midst of a U.S.-led investigation into corruption in the world body.
CAF secretary general Hicham el Amrani said in an email Wednesday to The Associated Press that confederation president Hayatou of Cameroon was ''already in Canada'' and would hand over the trophy at Sunday's final. Blatter and FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke will both be absent for the final because of what FIFA called their ''current commitments'' in Zurich.
Blatter has announced he will step down because of the investigations.
