The Rotterdammers went down 2-1 to Ajax at De Kuip to continue a disappointing start to the new Eredivisie season. Mario Been's men have won just two of their opening six fixtures and already find themselves nine points adrift of the summit. But De Cler, while admitting the failings at the weekend, has urged the players to look forward ahead of their third-round clash with Roda JC on Wednesday. "We have only ourselves to blame, in certain stages of the game we did not give enough," he said on the club's official website. "We have to focus on the next few games. "The confidence is still there but we will have to stand up in the coming games." Ajax return to action with a home tie against Eerste Divisie side MVV while PSV Eindhoven meet Sparta Rotterdam having been held to a goalless draw at Roda. "The final score reflected the balance of play," PSV boss Fred Rutten admitted afterwards. "If either side had scored they would have claimed the three points. we didn't reach our usual level, particularly going forward but we didn't give much away either. "All in all, though, it was a below-par display." Among the other big-name teams in Holland, FC Groningen - currently third in the Eredivisie - go to Haaglandia/Sir Winston, defending Eredivisie champions FC Twente visit Capelle while AZ Alkmaar take on FC Den Bosch.
