Fernandez unsure of Auxerre title tilt

Manager Jean Fernandez has dismissed Auxerre's chances of landing the Ligue 1 title despite his side sitting in a tie at the top of the table.

Although they are flying high alongside Lyon and Montpellier, AJA could be clear at the summit having wasted two chances over the past week to establish a two-point advantage over the rest following draws with Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain.

Manager Fernandez is adamant, though, that one of the pre-season title favourites will come through.

He said: "I do not live in a dream world but in everyday reality.

"The title will go to one of the big three - Bordeaux, Marseille or Lyon.

"Journalists tell the fans to dream but we have never mentioned it.

"To win the title, we need quality players. And we have fewer than Bordeaux, Marseille and Lyon.

"We will I think have to fight with Montpellier and Lille for fourth or fifth place.

"This would be a fitting reward for a season which has already been successful."
