Ferguson: Rooney likely sidelined 2-3 weeks

Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson says Wayne Rooney is likely to be sidelined for two to three weeks because of an ankle injury.

The England striker was substituted in the 61st minute of United's 2-2 draw at Bolton on Sunday. Rooney did not fly with the Premier League club to Spain on Tuesday for a Champions League match against Valencia.

Ferguson said at a news conference in Valencia that Rooney's injury would likely sideline the player for up to three weeks. That could rule him out of England's European Championship qualifier against Montenegro on Oct. 12.
