Peterborough United's Kane Ferdinand is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his famous cousins and grace 'the big stage'.

The 20-year-old midfielder admits that he has sought advice from family members during the early stages of his career, with Rio, Anton and Les only too happy to help.

Ferdinand appears to be on course to hit his target, with a summer move to London Road taking him to the Championship from League Two Southend United.

He netted his first goal for Peterborough in a crucial 1-0 victory over Blackpool on Saturday and hopes there will be many more to come.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international appreciates that he still has much to learn, but feels he can continue to progress by listening to those around him.

"It was great to get my first goal for the club but I don't think they'll make a big deal of it," Ferdinand said on the response he is likely to get to his landmark strike for the Posh.

"I might get a 'well done' text but I doubt it.

"I've always listened to their advice and tried to take tips off them. They have been top players and it's important to watch the best and add bits to your own game.

"Hopefully, one day I'll be playing on the big stage, too."
