A match in Sweden's top tier was abandoned after a fan in a mask ran onto the pitch and attacked a goalkeeper. The fan ran at Aly Keita in the 90th minute, striking the Ostersunds keeper before players and stewards intervened. The match referee, Jonas Eriksson, took both teams off the pitch before then deciding to abandon the match.
Footage shows the attacker run after Keita before eventually catching the player, and Keita down on the pitch in aftermath of the altercation. According to AP, the keeper was treated for a head injury. The man, identified as a 17-year-old from Sodertalje, near Stockholm, was arrested after the attack.
"He is under arrest, we have informed the prosecutor of the arrest and interviews will be conducted with him about the suspected breaches of the law," Jonkoping police commander Peter Nordengard said via BBC Sport.
As for Keita, the 29-year-old appeared understandably shook up by the ordeal. "I am shocked and angry," he told reporters. "It is awful that something like this could happen."
The reason for the attack has yet to be disclosed, but safe to say it probably didn't warrant that kind of behavior.
We've seen a lot of pitch invaders in recent years, but most of them have had amicable intentions -- normally they're just looking for a selfie or a hug. Acts like this out of Sweden, though, show that security needs to be tightened, even if it means fewer selfies.
