Radamel Falcao scored five times to reach 16 goals for the Spanish league season and trail only Lionel Messi after leading Atletico Madrid to a 6-0 thrashing of last-place Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday.
The Colombia striker helped Atletico bounce back from its loss to Real Madrid with a commanding performance that kept it in second place and perfect after eight home games this season.
After Diego Costa scored for Atletico in the 23rd, Falcao's first goal came five minutes later from a counterattack.
Falcao curled a vicious strike in from the edge of the area three minutes from halftime to put the result beyond doubt. He then earned and converted a penalty in the 64th before adding goals in the 68th and 71st minutes.
