Genoa has sacked coach Fabio Liverani and rehired Gian Piero Gasperini after one of its worst starts to the season.

Liverani was promoted from youth team coach in the offseason but his team has won just one match - the derby against Sampdoria - and lost four of its opening six matches. Genoa has only had one worse start to the season, 30 years ago.

A statement on Sunday says Genoa has given Gasperini a three-year contract.

Gasperini coached Genoa from 2006 to 2010, bringing the club up from Serie B after his first season and steering it into the Europa League. He went on to coach Inter Milan and Palermo after being sacked from Genoa.
