LONDON (AP) Everton has signed Switzerland Under-21 forward Shani Tarashaj from Grasshoppers on a 4 1/2-year deal, in the English Premier League club's first signing in the transfer window.
Tarashaj, who has eight goals in 18 games for Grasshoppers this season, will be loaned back to the Swiss club for the remainder of the season to allow him to complete his national service.
Everton announced the signing on Thursday, with manager Roberto Martinez saying Tarashaj ''is an enormous young talent in Swiss football who, without a doubt, will have a great future.''
Liverpool has recalled center back Tiago Ilori and forward Sheyi Ojo from loan spells with Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers, respectively, to ease its growing injury crisis.
