Everton draws 1-1 at Wigan in Premier League

Everton converted one of its two penalty kicks to draw 1-1 with relegation-threatened Wigan in the Premier League on Saturday.
Wigan took a 21st-minute lead at the DW Stadium through midfielder Charles N'Zogbia after he picked up James McCarthy's chipped pass. N'Zogbia stumbled briefly before curling the ball into the goal with a left-foot shot.
But the France international then gave away a penalty in the 36th after being caught out by a short free-kick from Leighton Baines and tripping Leon Osman in the penalty area.
Despite Baines having scored the Toffees' last two penalties, Arteta stepped up and Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi saved superbly to his left.
Wigan gave away a second penalty after the interval as Hugo Rodallega needlessly handled the ball after a corner. This time Baines equalized for Everton with a powerful 78th-minute penalty, blasting the ball into the roof of the net.
Wigan finished strongly but Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard was outstanding in the closing minutes.
Wigan remains in the relegation zone at 18th with 35 points, while Everton is seventh with 48 points.
