Former England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson was appointed manager of English second-tier club Leicester on Sunday.
The 62-year-old Eriksson attended Leicester's 3-1 win over Scunthorpe on Saturday before signing a reported two-year deal with the club.
Eriksson will join Leicester on its tour of Thailand during the international break before his first League Championship game at home to Hull City on Oct. 16.
''I am extremely pleased to be the new manager of Leicester,'' Eriksson said. ''This challenge provides great motivation for me and I look forward to working with the players, meeting the supporters and hopefully achieving great success.''
Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric said it was a ''landmark appointment,'' while Thai owner Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn described it as a ''great day for everyone associated with the club.''
''In Sven, we have a world-class leader for our team and for our club,'' Raksriaksorn said. ''His record within the game is tremendous and he has the ability, knowledge and pedigree to take this club forward and in to the Premier League.''
Leicester moved quickly to appoint Eriksson after sacking Paulo Sousa on Friday after less than three months in charge.
Sousa had led the club to only one win and last place in the standings, but Saturday's victory lifted the team to third from bottom.
Eriksson has been out of work since leading Ivory Coast at the World Cup where the African nation failed to advance from the group stage. He led England to the quarterfinals at the 2002 and '06 World Cups, but has been more of a success in club football.
The Swede won six trophies with Lazio between 1997 and 2000, including Serie A, the European Cup Winner's Cup and two Italian cups. He led Sweden's IFK Goteborg to the UEFA Cup in 1982.
He also won domestic cups with Benfica, AS Roma, Fiorentina and Sampdoria.
Eriksson was fired at Manchester City after taking charge for only the 2007-8 season. After a short stint coaching Mexico, he was hired as director of football at English fourth-tier club Notts County, but left in February after around six months.
Leicester's last major title was the League Cup in 2000.
