Eintracht Frankfurt has brought back central defender Marco Russ from Wolfsburg.

Russ left Frankfurt when Eintracht was relegated in 2011. The Bundesliga club has returned to the top tier and is surprisingly fourth halfway into the season, equal on points with defending champion Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga club says it has taken Russ on loan until the end of the season, with an option for a full transfer.

Eintracht's bench is not deep in defenders. Bamba Anderson is out for an undetermined time with an abdominal muscle injury and Vadim Demidov has been sent on loan to Celta Vigo.
