The Egyptian Football Association says the nation's league could resume in empty stadiums after the mourning period ends on March 15 for the 74 people killed in the country's worst soccer violence.
Association spokesman Azmy Megahed said on Wednesday the final decision lies with the prime minister and security officials.
But Megahed said he believes the government could be encouraged to resume games after Egypt's two biggest clubs, Al-Ahly and Zamalek, expressed interest in playing an exhibition to raise money for the families of those killed in the violence.
The league was suspended after the deadly stampede and riot on Feb. 1 in Port Said following a match between Al-Ahly and Al-Masry.
