Goals from Demy de Zeeuw and Lorenzo Ebecilio put Ajax in control with Wout Brama halving the arrears on the stroke of half-time. Theo Janssen made it 2-2 after 56 minutes and with neither side able to make further inroads the match went to extra-time. Austria international Janko then nodded in a Janssen free-kick with just three minutes of the second extra period to go to hand Twente the trophy for a third time and keep them on course for a league and cup double. De Zeeuw opened the scoring in the 19th minute when he turned on Christian Eriksen's neat pass and fired right-footed into the roof of the net from the edge of the box. And it was 2-0 five minutes before half-time when Ebecilio fired low right-footed past keeper Sander Boschker from 25 yards. That appeared to put Ajax in command of the tie - but the crucial moment was to arrive immediately before the teams headed to the dressing rooms. Brama exchanged passes with Luuk de Jong and slotted the ball low past goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer to halve the deficit, sowing the seeds for his team's revival. De Jong was again the provider when they equalised 11 minutes after half-time, latching onto Bart Buysse's through-ball and crossing for Janssen to finish left-footed from just inside the box past Vermeer's despairing dive. Ebecilio came within millimetres of clinching victory for Ajax on the 70-minute mark when his 20-yard drive left Boschker helpless but crashed off the inside of the post and away for a goal kick. The game therefore headed into extra-time and looked set to go all the way to penalties - until Janko's late intervention. Janssen's delivery from the right wing picked out the rangy striker, who nodded low past Vermeer from six yards.
