Dubai club Al Ahli says it has hired Czech coach Ivan Hasek for a second time to replace former Leeds and Aston Villa manager David O'Leary, who was fired after one season.
The club's chief executive Ahmed Khalifa told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Hasek, who won the UAE league title with the club in 2009, has a two-year contract. Hasek's hiring is part of a bid to improve a side that fell to eighth last season despite the hiring of O'Leary and Juventus and Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro.
It has bolstered the side in the off season with several Brazilian signings, including a two-year deal with striker Grafite from German club Wolfsburg.
Khalifa said Hasek was chosen because he is a ''big name'' and familiar with the team.
