Drop fears still hang over Newcastle after draw

Newcastle wasted a chance to reduce its relegation fears by conceding a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League on Saturday.

Newcastle deserved to score early through Yoan Gouffran's header, and so dominated the rest of the half that the result should have been certain by the interval. But Papiss Cisse and Moussa Sissoko couldn't finish.

Encouraged by the scoreline, West Brom turned the tables in the second half. Romelu Lukaku headed a corner off the post, and Bill Jones levelled an hour in.

Two minutes later, West Brom was denied when a Goran Popov cross found an unmarked James Morrison, whose powerful header was saved well by Newcastle goalkeeper Rob Elliot, in for the injured Tim Krul.
