Dutch utility player Royston Drenthe has moved to promoted Hercules on loan from Real Madrid.
Drenthe made only eight league appearances last season. He has mostly played in the midfield during his three seasons at Madrid, but can also play at fullback.
The 23-year-old Drenthe joined Madrid in 2007 for a reported ?13 million (then-$18 million) but never found a regular place in the team. He helped Madrid win the Spanish league in 2008.
Hercules has been one of the most active teams in the transfer market, signing former France striker David Trezeguet from Juventus and Paraguay forward Nelson Valdez from Borussia Dortmund.
