The Liverpool winger was in fine form during Tuesday's 1-0 win over Wales in a Euro 2012 qualifier at Wembley and set up the winning goal for Young. The pair first impressed when in tandem at Aston Villa for the past two seasons before summer moves to Anfield and Manchester United respectively. Downing said: "Ashley is a good player - and good players play well together. "The movement was good, it was good in Bulgaria, and at times against Wales we did well again. "We are enjoying playing with each other and, if we keep getting results and playing well, it (the partnership) will get stronger." Downing added: "It's been a good start to the season for me for club and country. "Maybe I'm a little bit more confident on the England stage now and playing well at club level helps. "Getting a run of games helps your confidence and getting used to the players around me. "It would be nice to stay in the England team and I've just got to keep playing well and hopefully that will happen." Downing believes Liverpool can remain in contention for honours if they maintain their impressive form of recent weeks. He said: "There is a feelgood factor at Liverpool. We started the season very well but we've got a tough run of games coming up, starting with Stoke. "But, if we keep playing the way we are at Liverpool, we've got a hell of a chance of being in the top bracket." Young has never lacked self belief and is targeting a 20th Premier League title for United and relishing the prospect of Champions League football. He said: "It is the world's biggest club. The chance to play in big competitions, going for league honours and the Champions League is any boy's dream. "I've got the confidence that I can play in those competitions. "You look at the history of the club. It is the biggest club in the world. "When I heard of the interest, I just wanted to sign straight away, get involved with the team. They won 19 league titles. Hopefully it will be the 20th this season."
