Doctors: Havelange out of semi-intensive care unit

Doctors say former FIFA president Joao Havelange is continuing to improve and has left a semi-intensive care unit.
The Hospital Samaritano said the 96-year-old Havelange was transferred out of semi-intensive care on Friday, nearly two months after he was hospitalized for septic arthritis, a serious infection that affects joints.
Doctors say the right ankle infection is under control and antibiotics are being administered orally instead of intravenously. Havelange was in intensive care for several days because of heart and breathing problems.
Havelange, who turned 96 on Tuesday, led FIFA from 1974-98 and remains an honorary president at football's governing body. He resigned from the International Olympic Committee late last year citing undisclosed health reasons, avoiding a possible suspension for allegedly taking kickbacks from former FIFA marketing partner ISL.
