Discussions between the two clubs have now begun with both sides open to the prospect of an agreement being struck. Wigan are keen to bolster their attacking options following a disjointed start to the season, while Chelsea are prepared to cash in on a player well down their striking pecking order. With first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge likely to be difficult to come by for Di Santo this season, he too is likely to favour a switch. The promising Argentine took in a spell at Blackburn Rovers on loan last season, scoring once in 25 appearances. And Wigan are prepared to take a gamble on the 21-year-old frontman, believing that he still has untapped potential. Reports suggest that they are prepared to offer around £2million to take him off Chelsea's hands.
