Argentine striker Franco Di Santo scored either side of halftime to earn Wigan a 2-0 win over promoted Queens Park Rangers and maintain his team's unbeaten record in the Premier League this season.

The former Chelsea forward drilled a finish into the top corner in the 41st minute for the opening goal and wrapped up victory with a deflected shot from just outside the penalty box in the 66th.

''Franco has always been influential for the team but for a striker there is nothing better than hitting the back of the net,'' Wigan manager Roberto Martinez said. ''Today, technically his display was superb.

''Franco knows he must work very hard to fulfill his potential. He has a long way to go but he has got absolutely everything. It was great to see him smiling and celebrating.''

Wigan only survived relegation on the final day of last season but the northwest club has made a solid start to the new campaign, including draws in its first two games.

QPR, which signed Joey Barton too late Friday to field the midfielder at the DW Stadium, hit the woodwork three times - twice through Morocco winger Adel Taarabt.

During the match, QPR confirmed that right back Luke Young had joined from Premier League rival Aston Villa on a three-year deal.

Manager Neil Warnock said he hoped Barton and Young would be among ''five or six'' new faces before the transfer window closes on Wednesday.
