The German football federation says it will rule on Friday on Hertha Berlin's appeal against the result of a relegation match that saw the team demoted from the Bundesliga.

Hertha drew with second-division club Fortuna Duesseldorf 2-2 on Tuesday after chaotic scenes which forced the referee to halt the game three times.

The capital's only top-division club appealed the result claiming a pitch invasion two minutes from the end prevented players from scoring the winning goal and staying in the Bundesliga.

Meanwhile, Duesseldorf police said on Friday that match referee Wolfgang Stark has filed a criminal complaint against a player for assaulting him off the pitch.
