Coach Louis van Gaal has added Brazilian-born defender Douglas to the Netherlands squad for World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Romania.
Monday's announcement marked the first international call-up for the 24-year-old FC Twente center back since he gained Dutch nationality last year and became eligible to play for his adopted country in September.
The 2010 World Cup runner-up Netherlands plays Andorra on Friday in Rotterdam and Group D leader Romania four days later in Bucharest.
Van Gaal is rebuilding the team after its disappointing European Championship, when his predecessor Bert van Marwijk led the Netherlands to three straight defeats and elimination at the European Championship.
