De Jong: City need more goals

City are currently in fourth place and just three points off leaders Arsenal, but have only scored eight goals at home in the league this season - the lowest total in the top flight along with Wigan and Birmingham. And midfielder De Jong is worried a failure to finish off games could come back to haunt Roberto Mancini's expensively-assembled side. "We are strong and we have proved that we are a very good side and can play good football," said De Jong. "All we are lacking is scoring enough goals, especially at home." City saw off Bolton 1-0 at Eastlands on Saturday but almost lost out on two points when the visitors came close to grabbing a late equaliser following Aleksandar Kolarov's dismissal. De Jong is aware an increase in goals would lead to more convincing results, adding: "We only have ourselves to blame. "The only flaw in a very good performance from the whole team against Bolton was that we didn't score more than one goal. "If you don't score the goals to go with a good performance you can find yourselves in a really bad position, especially towards the end when, if there is a red card, the last few minutes can be tricky." Kolarov, meanwhile, insists his second yellow card, for a reckless tackle on Bolton's Sam Ricketts, was overly harsh. "I was not happy about the sending off," he said. "With the second yellow card I took the ball first and could not stop myself as I went down, but the referee made the decision and I have to respect it. "I wanted the ball and I took it first, then maybe I took a little bit of the player, but I did take the ball first. I just have to accept the decision, but it was hard to take. "If I had made a bad foul I would have accepted not playing for a few games, but this red card was hard. That's football though, the referee makes the decisions and you have to accept them."
