Cyprus' football federation has fired national team coach Angelos Anastasiades after disappointing results in the country's 2012 European Championship qualifying campaign.

The CFA said on its website that federation officials decided in a meeting Friday to let Anastasiades go now in order to give a new coach enough time to prepare the team for the start of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

A replacement for Anastasiades will be discussed at an upcoming CFA meeting.

Under Anastasiades' six-year stewardship, Cyprus achieved some impressive wins including a 5-2 victory over Ireland in Euro 2008 qualifying. But the country's Euro 2012 qualifying run has been a disappointment as it has garnered only two points in four games.
