Coyle: Klasnic showing his class

The last 10 days could prove to be a turning point for Klasnic in his career with Bolton, with the Croatian scoring the winner in FA Cup ties at Wigan and Fulham to send the club into the sixth round. Sandwiched in between was confirmation from Greater Manchester Police that he would not face charges over the alleged rape of a teenage girl following an investigation dating back to October. Given Klasnic has also had a number of injury niggles this season, after joining Bolton in the summer on a permanent deal from Nantes, the worst would now appear to be behind him. With Coyle's confidence in Klasnic unwavering, all he now requires of the 31-year-old is for him to get himself fully fit. "He has been stop-start with injuries this season, and people have forgotten about that," said Coyle on Klasnic, who has yet to start a Premier League game this campaign. "But it's fair to say that mentally he is now in a very good place, and physically he is very close to his maximum. "We know he is a quality goalscorer. That is not even up for debate. That desire to score goals is there. "What we have to make sure is that Ivan is physically at his very best, that he has that sharpness, and he is getting there bit by bit." Klasnic claimed this week he has given Coyle "something to think about" in the wake of his FA Cup exploits, adding that when he is in the team he has confidence in his ability to score. But with on-loan Daniel Sturridge, who has scored in each of his three appearances since joining Bolton from Chelsea, available again for tomorrow's trip to Newcastle, Klasnic may have to make way. Despite that, Coyle added: "I love that confidence, which is something I had myself as a player. "I think all my strikers feel that if they play they'll score, and that's great, which means it's a great problem for me to have." Bolton head to St James' Park on the back of a run of four wins in their last five matches, and despite defensive issues, managed to keep a clean sheet in each of those victories. Another Bolton win will see them match the number of points they collected throughout the entirety of last season. Coyle, though, is aware that despite a 5-1 thumping of Newcastle at the Reebok Stadium at the end of November, the Magpies are now a much different proposition themselves. Despite the recent £35million loss of Andy Carroll to Liverpool, Coyle said: "This is a side that came from four goals down to draw with Arsenal, so that tells you all you need to know about their quality. "They've been a breath of fresh air because they are positive in a game, and you have to give tremendous credit to Chris Hughton, and now Alan Pardew. "He has come in, taken up the mantle, and it was difficult for him because the players had a rapport with Chris. "But Alan's done a terrific job because they show an attacking intent every time they play the game, and they have real flair players who can win a game."
