Coyle expects Cahill to stay

Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle does not expect to lose Gary Cahill during the January transfer window.

Cahill has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Premier League since joining Bolton two years ago and made his England debut in September.

The 24-year-old has regularly been linked with other clubs and was most recently mooted as a target for reigning champions Chelsea.

However, Coyle does not want to lose any of his best players as he also tries to convince Johan Elmander to sign a new contract at the Reebok Stadium.

Natural progression

"The key is keeping the group I've got, but if somebody said, 'Here's £30million', then it might be impossible," Coyle told the Sunday Times.

"There'll be a time some players outgrow Bolton. That's a natural progression in football, there's nothing wrong with that.

"If Gary continues to play out of his skin it wouldn't surprise me if one of the elite clubs in England or Europe want him.

"But I don't expect that to be in January."
