Corsican club Ajaccio fires coach Alex Dupont

Ajaccio has sacked coach Alex Dupont one game before the winter break, with president Alain Orsini citing a poor attitude within the squad as the main reason for his decision.

Orsini said Monday that the club's position of 14th in the French league is not the most worrying thing, but rather ''the lack of team spirit'' which has ''traditionally been our strength.''

The 58-year-old Dupont was sacked by Brest near the end of last season, and Brest stayed up.

Ajaccio is three points above the relegation zone and has won only two of its past 11 league games.

Orsini added that ''I regret having to take this decision as I have a lot of respect'' for Dupont.

A new coach will be named soon, Orsini said on the club's website.
