CORDOBA, Spain --

Cordoba squandered a great chance to finally end its 42-year wait for its first win in Spain's first division when it was held 0-0 at home by 10-man Deportivo La Coruna on Friday.

Cordoba, which returned to the topflight for the first time since 1972 last season, remained in last place and the only winless team in the Spanish league through 11 rounds.

Forward Federico Cartabia wasted Cordoba's best scoring opportunity in the 16th minute when his penalty was saved by goalkeeper Fabricio Agosto after Helder Postiga pulled down Daniel Pinillos in the area.

That foul earned Postiga his first booking, and the Portugal striker earned a second yellow card in the 29th after trading shoves with Cordoba's Inigo Lopez.
