Copa Santander Libertadores Roundup, Mar. 23

Defending champion Estudiantes La Plata of Argentina had a 2-0
victory over Bolivian club Bolivar on Tuesday to move into second
place in Group 3 in the Copa Libertadores.
Jose Sosa opened the scoring for Estudiantes from a right
wing cross in the 51st minute and Mauro Boselli scored a second
from close range in the 79th.
Alianza Lima leads the group with nine points from four
matches, two clear of Estudiantes, three ahead of Juan Aurich and
eight points clear of last-place Bolivar.
Paraguay's Libertad drew 1-1 with Peruvian club Universitario
de Deportes in Group 4 in the day's other match.
Victor Ayala gave Libertad the lead with a swerving shot from
the corner of the area in the 56th minute, but Luis Ramirez
equalized in the 87th to salvage a point.
The result keeps Libertad atop Group 4 with eight points,
ahead of Universitario on goal difference after four matches. Lanus
of Argentina, with three points, has a game in hand and can close
the gap with a win on Wednesday against Blooming of Bolivia.
The eight group winners and six best placed runners-up
qualify for the knockout Round of 16.
The Copa Libertadores is the top club competition in Latin
America. Estudiantes won last year's title after defeating Brazil's
Cruzeiro in the final.
