Gremio sealed its place in the Copa Libertadores last 16 with a 2-0 win over Group 2 leaders Junior of Columbia.

Lucio opened the scoring after 33 minutes and Borges made sure of the win for the impressive Gremio with a second-half strike, condemning Junior - who had already qualified - to a first defeat after four straight wins.

Gremio coach Renato Gaucho said: "We're still far from what I want from the team, but we played well and the victory arrived with perfect timing.

"We have to keep working because we gave some chances to the opponents that we shouldn't give. But we faced a tough team, who were unbeaten. The whole team did well."

Meanwhile, in a Group 4 match in Chile, Universidad Catolica and Argentina's Velez Sarsfield drew 0-0, a result that leaves both still needing a win from their final match in order to go through.

Venezuela's Caracas leads the group with nine points, and will host Velez, who has seven points, next time out.

Universidad Catolica, who are second on eight points, take on the already-eliminated Union Espanola.

In Bolivia, Jorge Wilstermann collected its first point in Group 6 after four defeats with a 0-0 draw against Ecuador's Emelec.

The result means Emelec needs something against group leaders Internacional in the final match to go through as eight points leaves them third behind Internacional's 10 and Jaguares' nine.
