The Puerto Rico Islanders reached the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League on Wednesday despite a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Islanders advanced 5-3 on aggregate after winning the first leg of the preliminary round last week in Los Angeles 4-1.
David Foley gave the Islanders a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute on a penalty. But the Galaxy got even in the 37th when Puerto Rico defender David Horst, standing near his goal line and attempting to clear a shot, kicked the ball off the leg of Marco Velez and watched it go into the net.
Sean Franklin scored for Los Angeles in the 84th.
