Cologne has parted company with general manager Michael Meier, five weeks after the struggling Bundesliga club sacked coach Zvonimir Soldo.

New coach Frank Schaefer confirmed that he and the players were told before Monday's practice that Meier was no longer the manager.

Meier's job was to hire new players and negotiate contracts. He has been in Cologne for five years and has come under fire for signing weak players and accumulating debt. Cologne is 16th in the 18-club Bundesliga.
