Club America confirms Atletico Madrid transfer bid for Jimenez

Club America striker Raul Jimenez could soon be plying his trade at one of Europe's elite clubs, with Las Aguilas confirming Saturday that Spanish champion Atletico Madrid has made a bid for the 23-year-old.

"The offer from Atletico Madrid is good and if both parties are satisfied, he'll go," America's sporting president Ricardo Pelaez said after the team's 2-0 win over Tigres in Monterrey.

The deal is not yet done and the club will sit down with Jimenez's father and his agent on Monday or Tuesday to go over the details, according to Pelaez, but the player already seems to be convinced.

"It's an opportunity that you can't let go," Jimenez said after the match. "(Atletico) is the Spanish champion, it reached the Champions League final and anyone would want to go there."

Jimenez has been of interest to Porto all summer, and Valencia has been linked with the Olympic gold medal winner in recent days, but America has refused to sell, indicating that bids have been too low.

Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone praised Jimenez after the friendly between the clubs in Mexico on July 30, saying the striker has the physical conditions to play in Europe, is good in the air and has a big future.
