City appeal against Zabaleta red

Arsenal have accepted Bacary Sagna's red card in the 0-0 draw against Manchester City, but the Blues will appeal against Pablo Zabaleta's dismissal.

Both players were sent off in the closing stages of the Emirates stalemate.

Sagna moved his head towards his City counterpart as they squared up and both players were sent off by referee Mike Jones.

Speaking immediately after the match, Wenger believed the decision to send off Sagna was harsh and that a yellow card could have sufficed.

However, having reviewed the incident, Wenger has confirmed the club will not appeal, meaning Sagna will now serve a three-match suspension.

"I have seen it again and there is no way we can appeal. For me it is a red card and we have to accept it," said Wenger.

"Bacary lost his temper and had too strong a reaction. He acknowledges that he should have kept control. We will not appeal."

The decision means Sagna will miss Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie against Leeds, the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final against Ipswich and the Premier League game at West Ham.

City are appealing against Zabaleta's dismissal, though, with assistant manager Brian Kidd saying: "It was very harsh."
