BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil (AP) Chile came oh so close to pulling off a ''Mineirazo.''

With Chile and Brazil even at 1-1 late in extra time at the World Cup on Saturday, the Chileans jumped up from the dugout in the final moments only to watch Mauricio Pinilla's shot slam off the crossbar.

Brazil ended up winning 3-2 in a penalty shootout and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli says ''the near goal has been very hard for us to take. If it had gone in, it would have been a historic moment for Chile.''

The last time the World Cup was in Brazil in 1950, Uruguay beat Brazil in the final match of the tournament, a result known as the ''Maracanazo.''

Instead of a ''Mineirazo,'' however, Chile's 14-year jinx against Brazil remains.
