The owners of the pitch at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge stadium will meet Thursday to discuss whether to accept the Premier League club's offer to buy it - a move that could be the team's first step toward leaving for a new home.

Chelsea says it has not identified a site for the larger stadium it craves to boost income and comply with UEFA's financial fair play regulations but wants to own Stamford Bridge outright first so it can sell up should it find an alternative.

The west London club is hoping fans owning shares in the nonprofit organization that possesses the turf, turnstiles and naming rights vote to sell in what Chelsea says is the best interest of the side.

Chelsea will guarantee those fans the right to purchase season tickets at any new stadium.
