Chelsea international update: Mixed results as some are booed off

A number of Chelsea players were in international action Thursday night, with mixed results. Some tasted victory while others were booed off by their fans.
Chelsea players took part on the world football scene on Thursday evening, as the international scene kicked into action. Eden Hazard, Diego Costa and N’Golo Kante were just three of the Blues stars involved in games across the continent.
Belgium v Spain
Well, this was where all the Chelsea interest was on Thursday night. Up to five players could have been involved as both nations played their first game under new management.
Unfortunately, for the star-studded staff comprising of Roberto Martinez and Thierry Henry, Spain ran out 2-0 winners. Diego Costa and Cesar Azpilicueta came off the bench for the away team, as they made an impressive start to Julen Lopetegui’s reign. The striker could not get on the scoresheet, though.
Both Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois played the full 90 minutes for Belgium on another disappointing night for the Red Devils. Despite it being Martinez’s first game in charge, sections of the home support did not hold back, booing their country off at the final whistle.
Michy Batshuayi’s fantastic start with Chelsea was not rewarded with an appearance.

N’Golo Kante
Chelsea’s engine-room was not afforded a rest on international duty. Kante played the full part as France strolled to friendly victory over Italy.
The hosts were lacklustre in Bari, as the French took advantage of their errors. The Premier League duo of Anthony Martial and Olivier Giroud grabbed the first two French goals, while Graziano Pelle scored Italy’s sole goal in a 3-1 loss.
Kante once again did his best in his uncelebrated role.

Eduardo
Remember? Chelsea signed Eduardo during the summer transfer window to act as a cover for Asmir Begovic and Thibaut Courtois. The Blues’ third-choice goalkeeper played the whole game for Portugal in a 5-0 defeat of Gibraltar.
Youngsters
A number of youngsters were nominally involved at England youth level. Exciting talent Mason Mount was the difference in the U18s victory over Italy.
Meanwhile, in a bizarre behind-closed-doors friendly, the U20s took on Brazil. None of Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham or Izzy Brown took the field in the 1-1 result.
