(who are these guys above?)
Earlier this week we took a look at what we thought Brendan Rodgers may do with his lineup for this matchup with Newco. Of the actual starting XI we only missed on two, as Rodgers preferred the new goalkeeper signing de Vries to Craig Gordon and Rogic instead of Roberts.
The latter likely because of training form instead of anything else.
Clearly this lineup shows that Rodgers has a clear understanding of Celtic’s strengths going in to this matchup and the upcoming Champions League clash with Barcelona. It also signals a clear winner between the sticks, as most believed Gordon would win the job for this match at the least given his experience.
With star striker Leigh Griffiths missing from the match, it isn’t surprising to see Sinclair and Dembele featuring up front. However, we were wrong in thinking that Patrick Roberts would be ready for a full go in this matchup. That necessitated a move for Sinclair up front and likely in deep behind Dembele.
The key will be Rogic and his ability to help the front two create chances against a likely parked bus. As long as Celtic can find a way up the wings and underneath the Rangers defense it should be a glorious day at Paradise .
