The Black Cats emerged 4-2 victors at home to lowly Wigan on Saturday to leave them 11th in the standings and seven points clear of the drop zone with four games remaining. Relegation fears that had surfaced over the past few weeks have been reassured by that win, and defensive midfielder Cattermole says his side are now fully focused on doing well at the opposite end of the table. "The last five or six weeks have been a bit nervous for the fans, but we always thought we'd get there in the end," Cattermole told Sky Sports News. "Our aim now is to finish in the top 10. "It was a good performance last week so hopefully we can get another result this week." Cattermole admits Sunderland's campaign has been hindered by the amount of injuries that have plagued the squad, and feels something must be done to prevent a recurrence of the problem next season. "We don't know what it is. We can say it's this, that or the other, but it's got to be addressed," he said. "The last few weeks we've lost players in the first half (of games) and it disturbs the team. "It doesn't help the momentum and things like that. But hopefully we'll have a better season without injuries next year." Cattermole's team-mate Phil Bardsley agrees injuries have made the Black Cats' battle for survival even tougher this season. "The last few months we've struggled with injuries and it's affected us a bit," he said. "But we've got a decent squad, and we've got players who can hopefully come in and do a job. If we do that I'm sure we can a few more victories before the end of the season." Sunderland's hopes of European qualification are over this term, but Bardsley is pleased to see former employers Manchester United doing well on club football's biggest stage after seeing off Schalke in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night. "They're just unbelievable. It's just everything about them, their presence," he added. "When they get to that stage they always produce. The manager himself, Sir Alex Ferguson, is unbelievable. "He gets the team right year after year and they're doing it again, and it looks like they're going to another final."
