The Black Cats twice hit the crossbar but could not find a way past the Cottagers at the Stadium of Light, but Cattermole was also called upon to clear a Dickson Etuhu header off the line in a match which could have gone either way. Cattermole told the club's website: "Fulham came here, got themselves set up and we needed to be patient. Maybe we rushed things too much and ended up getting caught at the back. "The lads were so eager to score a goal; that's not a bad thing but we need to use our experience and nous. "If we keep believing in ourselves and doing the right thing, the goals will come." The Wearsiders have home games against Wigan and Blackburn within the next month, and a trip to Molineux to face Wolves coming up on December 4.
