Carson wants more bite from Baggies

The Baggies have been in the top six of the Premier League in recent weeks but back to back defeats against Blackpool and Manchester City have seen them drop down to 10th. Skipper Carson believes Albion showed City too much respect during the opening 45 minutes of their 2-0 home defeat. He said: "We have been getting into players' faces during games, stopping them playing, and making it difficult for them. "Against City, we seemed to stand back a bit too much in the first half and maybe showed them too much respect. "It was something we haven't been doing. We sat off them and invited pressure. We lacked a bit of energy in pressing and closing them down. "We kept going and should have played how we did in the second half in the first half. "We have had a good start to the season but Sunday showed we have to be at 100 per cent at all times at this level. Now we have to bounce back." Carson knows the importance of the Baggies keeping clean sheets, something they have managed just once this season. "We need to move on and pick up results. We always feel we can score. "To keep a clean sheet is worth a point and we're confident we can hurt teams at the other end." Baggies boss Roberto Di Matteo is currently being handicapped by a series of injuries and suspensions. Midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has joined defender Gonzalo Jara in being banned on Wednesday after his red card against City. Jonas Olsson (Achilles) is a long term absentee while Steven Reid (Achilles) and James Morrison (knee) remain doubtful. But Carson insisted: "We can't feel sorry for ourselves with these injuries and suspensions. "We're going to be stretched but these things happen. The gaffer has always said the squad will be used and now we have to make changes." Di Matteo is also refusing to look for excuses for his side's mini slump. He said: "We have to start again, lift our heads up. "We have got two away games now, important ones, and we have to focus on them and move on forward. "At the moment we have a few suspensions and injuries and the back four is a bit unusual. "That does unsettle us a little bit but we have to deal with those things."
