Call girl stands up for France players
The escort at the center of a sex scandal involving several France players has reportedly written to coach Raymond Domenech asking him to take no account of the case before announcing his squad for the World Cup.
In a letter obtained by L'Express and posted Tuesday on the magazine's website, Zahia Dehar asks Domenech "to respect what the judges, lawyers call the 'presumption of innocence' and to take no account, at the time of your choice, of what has happened between some of our players and I."
Domenech will announce his 23-man squad later Tuesday live on French channel TF1.
Dehar was under 18 when she had sex with the players but said they didn't know she was underage.
French media have widely reported allegations that Dehar, now 18, was paid to have sex with several stars, including Franck Ribery, Karim Benzema and Sidney Govou. Ribery and Govou have already been heard as witnesses.
Prostitution is legal in France but prostitutes must be over 18, and clients are liable if they are not. The case is only at the judicial inquiry stage and no charges have been filed so far.
"I learned from the press that the publication of the statements I made to the police might result in some players being left out of the France team football," Dehar wrote. "This stuns and saddens me."
