Cagliari President Massimo Cellino has been questioned for nearly nine hours after being arrested in an ongoing investigation into the construction of Is Arenas stadium.

Cellino was arrested on Thursday along with public works commissioner Stefano Lilliu and Mauro Contini, the mayor of Quartu, where the stadium is located. The trio are suspected of attempted embezzlement and fraud.

A small group of Cagliari fans gathered outside Buoncammino prison while Cellino was being questioned on Saturday. A larger group is expected on Sunday to show solidarity with Cellino, while listening to Cagliari's Serie A match at Pescara on portable radios.

Another three people were arrested in November as part of the investigation, and remain under house arrest.
