Bruce: Pitch invader in police custody

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce said a young supporter is in police custody on Sunday after running onto the pitch and appearing to push a player to the ground amid crowd trouble at the end of a Premier League match against Newcastle.
The pitch invader was led away by police after confronting Newcastle goalkeeper Steve Harper, who temporarily ended up on the ground.
''He's in police custody as we speak,'' Bruce said. ''The one thing we are up here, we love the football and the passion and all the rest of it. But you don't need to see any scenes like that.
''I hope they ban the kid for a long, long time because he deserves it.''
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew said he thinks Harper was pushed in the back by the fan but added there wasn't ''anything malicious about it.''
''When I first saw it, I thought it was an uglier incident, if I am honest,'' Pardew said. ''It didn't look a good incident, but I don't think it was that bad in terms of hurting Harps or anything. No punch or anything like that was thrown.''
Rival fans were seen hurling seats at each other at the final whistle of the match between two local rivals.
Northumbria Police said there were a total of 24 arrests before, during and after the game for a variety of offences, including disorderly conduct and entering the playing area.
