Prosecutors are accusing Brazilian players Emerson and Diguinho of having links with a smuggling ring that illegally brought a BMW car into Brazil from the United States.
Prosecutors in Rio de Janeiro want to charge the players with contraband and money-laundering, and said their names came up during an investigation into a ring that illegally bought and sold cars from abroad.
If charged and convicted, the players could face from four to 14 years in prison.
A federal judge will analyze the evidence before any possible charges are filed.
