Bornstein to join Mexico's Tigres on Jan 1
United States left back Jonathan Bornstein will leave Major League Soccer's Chivas USA and join Mexico's Tigres UNAL on Jan. 1.
The 25-year-old Bornstein has been with Chivas USA since 2006 and his contract expires at the end of the season. He will be the second U.S. national team player to leave Chivas USA this year. Midfielder Sacha Kljestan transferred last month to Belgium's Anderlecht.
Bornstein has two goals in 34 international appearances and started against Algeria and Ghana at the World Cup.
He won't count as a foreign player in the Mexican first division because his mother is from Mexico.
A four-time MLS All-Star, Bornstein was just one of four U.S.-based players on the 23-man World Cup roster.
''I'm excited to join Tigres and ready for all the changes that will come with the move,'' Bornstein said Monday. ''It will be a big moment for me and I'm looking forward to it.''
