Boothroyd targets top seven

Aidy Boothroyd feels like his side are going in the right direction after Adebayo Akinfenwa's hat-trick saw off Accrington 4-2.

The Cobblers moved up to 12th in League Two with the victory, hot on the heels of the play-off places and that is where Boothroyd wants to be.

"This win has moved us closer to the chasing pack but we have got to try and stay there and build on it," he said. "We have had two away games and taken four points and now have two home games and we have got to try and add to the tally.

"We have got a depleted squad but we have been able to grind out results and the players have adapted to new systems and we have players coming off the bench who are making an impact. There are so many good things and a few things that aren't right, but it is part of our development of the club."

Northampton were trailing 2-1 until the introduction of Jake Robinson and Ishmel Demontagnac after 63 minutes helped to swing the game in the visitors' favour.

"The subs made the difference, they were excellent when they came on and they changed things," added Boothroyd. "It's easy to sulk when you aren't playing but these have worked hard and stayed fit and took their opportunity."
